Since NAMLE’s launch in 1997, we have been committed to expanding and
advancing media literacy education. As the leading voice, convener, and
resource for media literacy education, NAMLE aims to make media literacy highly
valued and widely practiced as an essential life skill. NAMLE envisions a day
when everyone, in our nation and around the world, possesses the ability to
access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication.
We're looking for a well-rounded Development Manager to join our small
but mighty team. You will be our first on-staff development hire, and will have
the opportunity to fine tune our development processes, expand our fundraising
capabilities and track our progress and interactions with funders. The
Development Manager will report directly to the Executive Director to plan and
implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and
long-term needs of the organization. If you are thrilled by the prospect of

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Assist the Executive Director with the creation and implementation of
the annual development plan.
- Participate in philanthropic funding strategy discussions including
weekly staff development meetings and monthly board development meetings.
- Research and identify key sources and trends in foundation, corporate,
individual, and philanthropic support.
- Produce in-depth, well-written backgrounders on prospective funders,
and update backgrounders on existing portfolio annually or as needed.
Administration and Project Management
- Manage all processes and systems related to organizational funding
efforts using both internal and external technologies, including but not
limited to Salesforce, Google Suite, and external supplier management systems,
- Write concept papers and grant proposals, develop budgets, and shepherd
the various development processes from start to finish.
- Outline strategic objectives and talking points for internal and
external meetings.
- Prepare presentations and other collateral materials for internal and
external audiences.
- Collaborate internally to develop program briefs, including program
goals, impact metrics, and activities.
- Expand monthly giving by deploying tailored plans for individuals and
groups of donors, including special events, fundraising campaigns, educational
briefings, written communications, etc.
- Prepare and send acknowledgements for grants received.
- Ensure compliance with all funding agreements by monitoring and
tracking the requirements of all awards.
Relationship Management
- Assist the Executive Director in maintaining relationships with funders
and building and maintaining a robust pipeline of new, existing, and potential
relationships,
- Coordinate periodic updates and communications to funders via
newsletters and annual reports,
- Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications,
- Work with the communication team to assist in creation of print,
digital and social media content related to development activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- A high degree of self-motivation and self-direction, but also a
collaborative mindset and a roll up your sleeves, can-do attitude,
- Superior attention to detail and organizational skills, with
exceptional follow-through on tasks, goals and deadlines,
- Ability to problem-solve with a strong desire to learn new things,
- Superior written and verbal communication skills,
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills,
- Previous experience in grant writing/fundraising, strategy, and program
development,
- Familiarity with the full suite of Google tools,
- Experience using databases and CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce,
- 5+ years of experience in a nonprofit setting, ideally one with a focus
on education,
- Higher education degree in related field a plus,
- A strong work ethic and a good sense of humor,
- Cute pets are not required but happily welcomed.
